Leopard gecko history
Leopard geckos were first described as a species in 1854 by zoologist Edward Blyth. Leopard geckos are native to the rocky dry grassland and desert regions of Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, India, and Nepal. The leopard gecko has become a popular pet due to their low maintenance. Due to extensive captive breeding, leopard geckos are sometime referred to as the first domesticated species of lizard.Â
